Book One (Series: "White unto Harvest.")

Finalist (Caleb Award) Omega Writers Inc 2019

Kate is at a crossroads. A social worker with a compassionate heart, she finds herself in conflict with her employer, the Westbrook Community Justice Service, over offering to accommodate a client in her home. Against department regulations, she knowingly had gone ahead with the decision to do it, despite the inevitable reprimand it could bring from management. Caught out, disappointed with herself, and harangued about her world view and belief in God by Dr Paul Leeuwin, the charismatic department psychologist, life had suddenly become complicated. Her career was at an all-time low and she had no one to blame but herself.

Things become even more intense when she dares to query her church leadership about their decision to fund an extension rather than reach out to needy families in a neighbouring suburb. Her concerns dismissed as irrelevant, she shares her heart for the less fortunate with friends, suggesting the community would be better served if the money was spent on a para-church organisation, not on ‘feathering their own nest.’ Her remarks spark a heated debate among people she thought she knew well and it’s not long before she finds herself at odds with many of them over their self-centred attitudes.

In conflict at work and falling out with fellow believers over her strong views, she decides to take ‘time out’ and use her ‘accrued’ leave to ponder her future. Can she continue in her current position or is it time to move on? Is she wrong about challenging the church leadership to redirect their funding towards a more gospel-oriented project? Is God trying to tell her something and she’s missed it?
It’s while she’s volunteering at a local charity during her time away from work that the friends offended by her earlier comments now approach her and want to further investigate the idea of setting up a ‘not-for-profit’ outreach centre. Things develop in a way she could never have envisaged and when Dr Paul Leeuwin arrives at her door in a distraught state, a new chapter opens in both their lives, with lasting ramifications for their futures.

Note from the author: ‘This is a Christian novel with prayer and Scripture written into the story, but because it features several ‘worldly’ characters, their behaviour may cause discomfort to some readers. There is romance and humour, love and compassion throughout, but the story covers some serious issues, the ’light’ battling with the ‘darkness’, the secular with the Biblical, and the writing reflects that reality.’
